Waterloo House GP Surgery ready to bring vaccine second doses forward


A GP surgery is waiting for the green light to bring residents’ second vaccine dose forward by four weeks.
Last week, the government announced that the gap between the two doses for people in the top nine priority groups would be reduced from 12 to eight weeks, and Millom’s Waterloo House GP Surgery is now waiting on ‘operational information’.
The surgery has said: “We are aware of the new guidance regarding bringing forward second doses to 8 weeks for the over 50s and clinically vulnerable, however we have not yet received the operational information to proceed in arranging these.
As soon as we do we will be putting these plans in place but, as usual, this is tied in with vaccine delivery. Please don’t call the surgery regarding this as it blocks the phone lines for those needing other medical advice. ....

Copeland MP gets to work solving local issues at a planned community meet


The MP for Copeland is bringing together community leaders to help solve local issues.
On Thursday, May 13, Trudy Harrison MP will host the inaugural session with parish, borough and county councillors from Millom, Bootle, Whicham, Ulpha and Waberthwaite, as well as education and health professionals from Millom School and Waterloo House Surgery.
Mrs Harrison said: “At the forefront of our national recovery is the government’s plan to support economic growth through significant investment in infrastructure, skills and innovation.
“I look forward to facilitating parish, borough and county councillors, along with business people, private investors, health and education professionals from Millom and Haverigg, Whicham, Silecroft, Ulpha, Bootle and Waberthwaite this week to develop community projects. ....

Ulverston's Covid-19 vaccine volunteers reveal 'light at the end of tunnel'


Volunteers at Ulverston Community Health Centre have explained why they are helping to deliver the Covid-19 vaccine to local residents.
Starting last Friday, eligible patients have been guided through the centre by volunteers as they receive the jab from the centre’s health workers.
Neil Fleming, alongside Caroline Smith, has helped recruit 160 volunteers for the vaccine rollout, mostly through their Facebook group, Ulverston Self Isolation Group.
The pair have set up a system where there will be morning and afternoon shifts, which will each have two shift leaders and nine volunteers working during them, equating to 22 volunteers every day.
Neil said: “The volunteers have a good understanding of the importance of the vaccination programme. ....
