WATERTOWN â The Watertown City and Indian River Central school districts, in partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County, have been awarded a total of $700,000 annually to offer 4-H afterschool programming in six new elementary school buildings starting in October. According to a release, Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County is looking forward to the opportunity to serve an additional 450 youths with extended school day activities ranging from extra academic tutoring assistance and life skills to enrichment such as astronomy, ornithology and theater arts. The extension will provide safe, engaging environments for students after school. In the WCSD, the program is called the 4-H Watertown Wellness Academy, serving K-4 students at Ohio, North and Knickerbocker. Cornell Cooperative Extension Association and the Watertown Family YMCA will partner to offer the programming. ....
WATERTOWN â The Town Council, meeting in a special session on Thursday, May 27, officially set the mil rate at 34.56 mils and scheduled one public hearing, for a new ordinance, and one town meeting, for payment of unanticipated overages in the education department. The mil rate was established following the approval of the proposed budget during a referendum on Tuesday, May 18. The Public Hearing on the proposed new ordinance was set for 6:15 p.m. Mon, June 7, at Watertown Town Hall. Currently, statutes limit the number of candidates any party can nominate and the number that any person may vote for to fill positions on the Board of Education and the Town Council. ....
WATERTOWN â Jonisha E. Jean-Baptiste, 21, of 770 Oswego Ave, Apt. 126, Fort Drum, was charged with disorderly conduct for fighting by city police on Sunday. According to police records, at 1:22 a.m. Sunday at the pool hall on Eastern Boulevard, Ms. Jean-Baptiste fought with another woman outside the bar, forcing many people to move to avoid being caught in the fighting. Ms. Jean-Baptiste was arrested, taken to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building and turned over to the custody of Fort Drum military police. She was given an appearance ticket to return to Watertown City Court. Andrea L. Frender, 49, of 2530 Alexandria Meadows was charged with second-degree harassment by city police on Saturday. ....
