Verena (Rena) E. Young passed away peacefully at Carthage Area Hospital in the early morning hours of Friday, May, 21, 2021 after a prolonged and valiant struggle to recover from a serious stroke. She was born December 12, 1925, the only daughter in a family of seven to Fred and Ethel Smiley in Cochrane, Ont. Canada. She was educated in the Canadian Public Schools and after deciding on a career in business she enrolled and graduated from Shaw Business School and then attended the University of Toronto, working towards her CPA. While working in Toronto and enjoying tennis, photography, horseback riding, birding and skiing in the Laurentian Mountains, she met her future husband John E. G. Young who had been recruited in England by Avro Canada to work on the Arrow fighter plane. They were married in October of 1959. ....
April 22, 2021 Richard Howard WATERBURY – Richard W. Howard, 91, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, in his home with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Delores (Rubino). Dick was born in Waterbury on Nov. 16, 1929, son of the late Willian and Eva (Bendler) Howard. Richard was a graduate of Leavenworth High School, class of 1947, where he played three years of baseball, then going on to play in the City Amateur League, and he became a popular pool and billiards player. Dick then enlisted in the United States Army, and served honorably during the Korean conflict, and was also a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign War. On his first furlough, he married the love of his life, Delores Rubino, with whom he shared seventy years together. After retiring as a general foreman in the manufacturing industry, he devoted his time to family, friends, and his favorite sport, golf! ....

After graduating from General Brown High School in 1966, he operated the family owned dairy farm. In 1969, he joined the I.B.E.W Local 910 Apprenticeship School that led him to a Journeyman Classification. During that time he worked for various contractors throughout New York State as an electrician. He was a journeyman, foreman, and general foreman at numerous industrial facilities. He was responsible for timely delivery of installations that were complete and met code requirements. ....
