MADRID â The 2021 class leaders for Madrid-Waddington Central School have been announced. Cum Laude Benjamin Averill, the son of Carla and Matt Averill, will graduate with an Advanced Regents diploma with Mastery in Science. He plans to attend SUNY Oswego, to major in zoology and has earned the Presidential Scholarship. Taylor Bettinger, daughter of Nichole and Randel Bettinger, will graduate with a Regents diploma with Technical Endorsement. She plans to pursue a college degree in biology or law. Riley Burke, daughter of Eric and Michelle Burke, will graduate with an Advanced Regents diploma with Mastery in Math. She plans to attend SUNY Potsdam, majoring in elementary education, where she earned a Deanâs Scholarship. ....
Tuesday, May 11, 2021 - 9:02 am MADRID The Madrid-Waddington Central School has announced its class leaders of the graduating class of 2020-2021. These students have achieved the designation of Cum Laude with distinction and Magna Cum Laude with great distinction , and Summa Cum Laude with highest distraction having a grade point average of 90, 93 or 95 or better respectively. CUM LAUDE Benjamin Averill, son of Carla and Matt Averill, plans to attend SUNY Oswego, majoring in Zoology and has earned the Presidential Scholarship. While attending MWCS, Averill participated in chorus, Stardust singing group, select choir, drama club, varsity club and is a member of the National Honor Society. He also demonstrated great leadership skills while playing soccer, hockey, baseball and working a part time job. Averill earned an Advanced Regents diploma with mastery in science. ....
Friday, May 7, 2021 - 2:06 pm MADRID Dorothy Duchano Hosmer, formerly of Madrid, passed away May 7, 2021 at the Untied Helpers Nursing Home in Ogdensburg. She was 94 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William, in 2011 and their son, William in 1966. She is survived by a son, Dale, of Ogdensburg and daughter Kathy, of Gainesville, FL., as well as a son in-law and daughter in-law, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and her sister, Marge of Gouverneur. Dorothy was a happy, positive spirit who loved life, people, travel, learning and most of all her family. The daily greeting was “good morning sunshine!” and if there was no sunshine, there was always a break in the clouds just ahead! ....
Syracuse: June Henry McQueeney was born June 2, 1932 on the family farm in Waddington, NY to Roy E. and Jennie C. Henry, their 5th child and only daughter. She was educated in a one-room school house to the eighth grade before moving on to the Waddington High School where she was a cheerleader and played the trumpet before graduating as salutatorian of the class of 1950. She entered the St. Lawrence State Hospital School of Nursing where she met the handsome, World War II Navy veteran, John J. (Mac) McQueeney who would become her husband and father to her five children. They made their home in the village of Waddington that would become the focus of their busy lives of community involvement. ....
