Holland restaurant owner scheduled to return to court Friday


The restaurant owner was held in Ingham County Jail for four nights following her arraignment by Judge Rosemarie Aquilina and released March 23, after paying a $15,000 contempt fine and shuttering her restaurant.
Pavlos-Hackney s food license was initially suspended by MDARD in late January for her refusal to comply with state-mandated COVID-19 emergency regulations, such as mask-wearing, social-distancing and capacity restrictions.
She continued to operate her restaurant without a food license for nearly two months, even after a temporary restraining order was issued by Stokes.
In total, the motions request the orders of contempt be voided and set aside, as well as a refund of paid contempt fines, a new hearing and additional time to prepare for the new hearing, if granted. ....

MDARD: Marlena's owner hasn't cooperate to restore food license


HOLLAND Marlena s Bistro and Pizzeria will remain closed for the time being, as the legal battle continues over whether owner Marlena Pavlos-Hackney should have been held in contempt of court in March.
According to filings from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD), however, the eatery could open much sooner if Pavlos-Hackney, 55, agrees to cooperate with the department to restore the restaurant s food license.
At all times, MDARD and the Allegan County Health Department sought to work with the establishment to ensure that it operates in compliance with Michigan s Food Law, the department wrote in filings dated Friday, April 23. ....
