Homeless outreach groups were hustling to find people places to stay Monday as dozens of homeless folks crowded on the corner of Jackson Street and Jefferson Street. Freezing temperatures hit Louisville Metro this week, along with inches of snow. Jeff Gill with Hip Hop Cares said he helped several folks find a warm place to sleep. ....
Louisville Metro Government and partner efforts to protect unsheltered during severe weather Louisville Metro Government, the Coalition for the Homeless and homeless service providers and outreach teams are taking numerous steps to help unsheltered people find shelter during severe weather. These include: White Flag: The Coalition for the Homeless coordinates the Operation White Flag program to ensure that residents experiencing homelessness can find shelter during severe weather. Operation White Flag goes into effect when the temperature or the wind chill is at 35 degrees or lower and designates that all persons needing shelter can stay at the participating shelters while weather conditions persist. Participating Operation White Flag shelters include: St. Vincent de Paul (for men only at 1034 S. Jackson St.) and Wayside Christian Mission (432 E. Jefferson St.).
