WASHINGTON, D.C. - Earmarks are back, and Northeast Ohio members of Congress want to use them to fund everything from local sewer improvements to police communication centers to a park.
The earmarking process lets members of Congress seek money for specific projects in yearly funding bills. Earmark advocates say Congress members are more familiar with deserving local projects than bureaucrats at federal agencies who would otherwise allot federal dollars. Rep. Adam Bird, R-New Richmond, proposed creating a new license plate for University of Alabama alumni, students and fans in honor of his father, who played football there for legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant.

MENTOR, Ohio (WOIO) - Mentor Police Department said officers will question a woman that may have set her own home on fire.
The blaze occurred around noon Wednesday at home located in the 7000 block of Culver Boulevard.
A woman reached out to police to report a call from her mother. The woman’s mother told her she set the house on fire and left, according to a release. ....
