Province introduces new legislation to combat human trafficking

The Provincial Government has announced a new legislation to fight against human trafficking in Ontario. 
Announced on National Human Trafficking Awareness Day on February 22, the Combatting Human Trafficking Act was introduced, which includes new legislation as well as amendments to the current Anti-Human Trafficking Strategy 2020-2025. 
“Our government is taking deliberate steps to put an end to human trafficking and protect victims and potential victims of this terrible crime,” said Premier Doug Ford in a statement. “This tough new legislation builds on our Anti-Human Trafficking Strategy we introduced nearly a year ago, giving law enforcement additional tools to help prevent and deter human trafficking.” ....

Ontario Taking Steps to Improve Mental Health Supports for First Responders and Public Safety Personnel
Establishing collaborative tables to identify supports, treatments and recovery options
TORONTO The Ontario government is establishing four new mental health collaborative tables to better support the mental health and well-being of policing, fire, corrections, and paramedic services personnel. The tables will help inform actions to change behaviours that stigmatize those struggling with mental health challenges, achieve a healthier work-life balance, promote mental health resiliency, and build awareness of supports, treatments and recovery options.

South African COVID-19 variant found in Peel Region, first in the province

Peel Region is reporting 334 new cases of COVID-19 as of February 2, with 3,860 active, 50,720 resolved, with a total of 55,143 and 563 deaths.
Peel has been steadily in the 300 range since January 25, where numbers have hit 306, 379, and even as low as 295 on January 29.
Alongside Peel, York Region is reporting 124 new cases and 119 in Toronto.
Remarkably, Ontario is reporting a low number of 745 cases across the province, a significant decrease since 1,969 cases reported on Monday. Tuesday’s numbers, however, do not paint a full picture as a technical glitch excluded Toronto’s numbers from the total. ....
