CHILDREN’S services in the district are showing signs of improvement, according to inspectors. But Ofsted, in its latest report, adds that progress in social work practice has been “too slow for children and families”. The inspection team was delivering its fifth report since Bradford Council children’s services department was judged to be ‘inadequate’ in 2018. Although there are positives in the document, many issues highlighted during previous visits – from struggles to recruit experienced social workers to assessments taking too long – remain. In a letter to the council, Ofsted says the “slow pace of change” is partly down to a mix of pressures caused by the Covid pandemic and “due to the breadth and depth of the inadequacy identified in 2018”. ....
Northern Ireland players inspire Newtownabbey pupils Fresh from their recent win to secure qualification for next summer’s European Football Championships, Danielle Maxwell and Kerry Beattie visited Hazelwood Integrated College on May 6 to inspire the next generation of female athletes. Monday, 10th May 2021, 5:02 pm During their visit to the Whitewell Road school, Danielle amd Kerry held a question and answer session with a group of Hazelwood girls who have a keen interest in football. Many of the Hazelwood students in attendance play football at club level and one student, Cerys Madden plays in the Northern Ireland Under-17 squad. The Northern Ireland stars gave an insight into their weekly regime, recounted the qualification journey, explained their personal experiences and detailed how they have progressed to such a high level. ....
1/1 THE owner of two Bradford shops used a number of secret compartments, including a remote controlled hydraulic chamber, to hide the counterfeit tobacco that he sold to boost his business. Giedrius Linkevicius pleaded guilty to a string of charges related to the sale of counterfeit cigarettes when he appeared at Bradford Magistrates Court on Tuesday. He was ordered to pay almost £10,000, and told to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work. Linkevicius, Director of Leo Food Stores, ran two shops, 7 Days store on Sticker Lane and Eko Polski on Legrams Lane, and the Court heard that he sold the counterfeit cigarettes because many of his Eastern European clientele did not wish to purchase full cost, legal cigarettes. ....
BRISTOL BOROUGH The Academic Oversight Committee (AOC) has had a busy fall and winter season working with the administration and faculty of the Bristol Borough School District and St. Mark School providing academic support to the students attending Bristol Boroughâs public and parochial schools, despite the impact of COVID-19.
