Going against state law, commissioners voted 2-1 to require parental consent for any county-affiliated vaccinations of teens ages 15-17.

MCMINNVILLE, Ore Before Thursday s board meeting, Commission Chair Mary Starrett convinced the Yamhill County health and human services director to require the consent from parents for teens ages 15-17 getting a coronavirus vaccine. 
The director, Dr. Lindsey Manfrin, initially went along with the request but then reversed course. Now she’s saying it s not a good decision to require that consent, legally or for teenagers. ....

County health department stops following state law for teen vaccinations
State law allows teen-agers 15 and older to decide for themselves whether to be vaccinated, without parental consent, including choosing the vaccine for COVID-19. But, reportedly at the request of County Commissioner Mary Starrett, Yamhill County Health and Human Services Director Lindsey Manfrin quietly stopped following that law this week. 
The county Public Health Department, which holds two weekly vaccine clinics, changed  its vaccine page this week to state that it was requiring parental permission to vaccinate all teen-agers up to the age of 17. After questions from the News-Register on Wednesday, however, Public Health removed the notes about the new requirement.  ....

Two Oregon counties want to prevent teens from getting COVID-19 vaccine without parental OK, despite law

A showdown with the state is brewing among at least two Oregon counties that already have or are taking steps to prevent 15-, 16- and 17-year-old residents from getting vaccinated against COVID-19 without parents’ or guardians’ permission.
A state law grants these teenagers the power to make their own medical decisions. The Oregon Health Authority says that includes whether they get vaccinated. The law requires parental consent for anyone 14 or younger.
But last week the Linn County Board of Commissioners directed its local health department to deny shots to any 15- to 17-year-old residents who want them unless they have parental approval. A state lawmaker, Rep. Marty Wilde, a Eugene Democrat whose district also covers part of Linn County, says that’s a violation of state law and he’s sent a complaint to the Oregon Department of Justice asking it to investigate. ....
