STATESBORO, Ga. In child welfare, it s supposed to be the state that helps abused and neglected children, but hundreds are abandoned to state custody each year simply because their parents don’t know what else to do.

FRC outlines proposed audit and corporate reporting powers


The Financial Reporting Council has provided more details relating to supervision under new corporate governance proposals, including broadening the regulator’s review powers to allow it to scrutinise the entire contents of a company’s annual report and accounts.
In a webinar hosted by the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), the regulator explained the scope of reviews into corporate reporting and audit quality. It also highlighted some of the practical implications of proposed changes to Public Interest Entity (PIE) auditor registration.
Among the recommendations outlined in the government’s Restoring trust in audit and corporate governance: proposals on reforms white paper is a broadening of the regulator’s review powers that would allow it to scrutinise the entire contents of a company’s Annual Report and Accounts. Legal challenges to the federal quarantine hotel policy continue to work their way through the courts, with another decision that was released on April 23. This decision was a minor procedural setback that will not have a bearing on the challenge to the policy. But the decision has attracted significant attention and is worth understanding.
Friday’s decision was about a request by the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF) and some individual travellers to temporarily suspend the quarantine hotel policy until the full legal challenge can be heard, later this year. The JCCF and these travellers were seeking what is called an injunction, which would suspend the quarantine hotel policy, because individuals are being harmed while they wait for the full challenge to be heard. ....

YPSILANTI TWP., MI – A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against a healthcare company contracted by the state’s prison system after a prisoner was given a lethal dose of antipsychotic medication.
Disability Rights Michigan with the Lipton Law firm filed a federal lawsuit Monday, April 19, in U.S. District Court seeking $5 million in damages against Corizon Health and several medical staff members for the wrongful death of Ashley Harris, 31, who died while incarcerated in the Huron Valley Women’s Correctional Facility in Ypsilanti Township in 2018. ....
