Game Changing Jobs For Nature Investment For Northland

Conservation Minister Kiri Allan has announced Jobs for
Nature funding for a portfolio of projects that will create
‘game changing’ gains for nature and communities across
Northland/Te Tai Tokerau as part of the Government’s
acceleration of the economic recovery from
COVID.
“This portfolio of 12 projects will see over
$20 million invested into creating jobs and controlling
predators in vitally important areas; protecting our forest
giants, the kauri, restoring important dunes and wetland
systems in the region, propagation and planting of
indigenous species, weed control and species protection.”
Kiri Allan said,
“It will see a total of 324 roles ....

Dargaville Library will close for two weeks while it is refurbished.

Dargaville Library is encouraging customers to stock up with books and DVDs during May before the library is closed temporarily for a freshen-up. The library will close from 5pm on May 28 and reopen on June 15. Lisa Salter, Kaipara Libraries Manager, said they are rearranging some of the facilities to make better use of the space they have. We re moving large print and audiobooks to a quieter space so people will be able to browse better. The public computers will be relocated to be closer to the counter so the team can help customers if they need it. Shelving will be improved and we re installing more CCTV, Salter said. The library will also be recarpeted, and some fittings moved, which means books will have to be boxed and shelves taken down and re-asse ....

Princess Cruises’ Guests Support Wildlife in New Zealand’s Bay of Islands
About 50 children from New Zealand’s Bay of Islands have been busy building ‘houses’ for threatened kiwis and penguins as part of the community’s effort to encourage the return of native wildlife in the area.
The children were part of an enthusiastic group of volunteers who helped build rock and cement shelters for the Kororā (Māori for little blue penguin) along the shoreline at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. The houses provide a safe haven for the birds to raise their young.
Organised by local conservation group, Bay Bush Action, volunteers also decorated and installed kiwi houses in the heart of the Opua State Forest to encourage prime nesting conditions for the iconic national bird. ....
