Port NOLA’s new $1.5 billion multimodal container terminal in St. Bernard Parish, La., is slated to serve the largest container vessels calling in the Gulf of Mexico, and will provide access to six Class I railroads (BNSF, CN, CSX, Kansas City Southern, Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific) and interstate highways.

CG Railway’s two new 590-foot-long ferries (pictured) will each be able to carry 135 railcars, up from 115 railcars on the existing ferries, with an expected top speed of 14 knots, up from seven knots.
Two new rail ferries will enter Gulf of Mexico service this year for CG Railway (GCR), a joint venture between subsidiaries of Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W) and SEACOR Holdings Inc.
The short line is replacing its existing two vessels that transport 10,000 annual carloads of diversified commodities from Mobile, Ala., to Coatzacoalcos, Mexico.
