Ivan the rough-tooth dolphin died Sunday night at Gulf World Marine Park in Panama City Beach.
PANAMA CITY BEACH  A well-known dolphin suddenly died earlier this week at Gulf World Marine Park. 
In a press release from Wednesday, park officials announced that Ivan the rough-toothed dolphin died Sunday night. At the time, he was receiving treatment for bacterial pneumonia and seemed to be responding well, the release states. 
Gulf World is heartbroken to share the news of the sudden loss of (its) beloved rough-toothed dolphin, it added. The management team would like to thank the staff for all their hard work and we understand how difficult it is to go through these moments after putting forth such an unselfish and professional effort to care for our animals.   ....

Gulf World is heartbroken to share the news of the sudden loss of (its) beloved rough-toothed dolphin, it added. The management team would like to thank the staff for all their hard work and we understand how difficult it is to go through these moments after putting forth such an unselfish and professional effort to care for our animals.  
According to the release, Ivan was found stranded on the coast of Cape San Blas on Sept. 27, 2004. His stranding came in the wake of Hurricane Ivan, which is how he got his name. 
He was then deemed non-releasable by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.  ....

Ill bottlenose dolphin dies during rehabilitation in Panama City Beach

PANAMA CITY BEACH  A 415-pound female bottlenose dolphin being rehabilitated at Gulf World Marine Institute has died.
According to a press release from the institute, her death was sudden and occurred Wednesday night, despite the rehabilitation and veterinary team s best efforts.
The dolphin was found stranded on the coast of Indian Pass on Tuesday. Past reports state that passers-by, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the United States Geological Survey stabilized the animal until GWMI officials arrived. 
As with all stranded animals, something is wrong with them, it s just a matter of the time it takes to figure out what s going on, said Lauren Albrittain, stranding coordinator for the institute. We knew going into it that she had . some kind of illness or condition, we jus ....

'Ghost Trap Rodeo' lassoes marine debris

The eyes of Carrabelle’s Fishy Fashion Show, an annual event showcasing outfits made from reclaimed marine debris, would have opened wide as claws had they seen the haul brought in earlier this month to Apalachicola’s Battery Park.
The kickoff event for the 2021-22 Ghost Trap Rodeo series, a search-and-rubbish marine disposal effort organized by a St. Petersburg-based non-profit, brought into Battery Park on Jan. 9 about 5,000 pounds of trash collected from in and around Apalachicola Bay.
It was the largest single-day haul for the rodeo, which originated in Tampa Bay in 2018-19, and in the seven rodeos since then has accumulated about 26,400 pounds of trash. ....
