News: Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company Announces 2021-2022 Season

Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company is back…to the future, back to welcoming patrons into its home in Penn Quarter, and back to the magic of live performance, while acknowledging a new future must be built for a more equitable and sustainable industry. The 2021-2022 season will start to build that future in the here and now by programming previously announced projects, producing a live version of a hit streaming show, and launching a national tour.

Brittany K. Allen Named Recipient of the 2021 Daryl Roth Creative Spirit Award for HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY


The Lark and producer Daryl Roth have announced Brittany K. Allen as the recipient of the 2021 Daryl Roth Creative Spirit Award for her play Happy Happy Joy Joy.
The Creative Spirit Award, now in its 26th year, was first given to director Michael Mayer in 1996. Presented annually, this $10,000 award includes a year-long residency at The Lark, with access to its artistic resources and developmental support.
The Award was established to honor theatre artists who have extraordinary vision, dedication, energy, and spirit for doing what they love, creating and bringing theatre to life for so many of us to enjoy, said Daryl Roth. Mary Kathryn Nagle Changes the Story, in Court and Onstage

Two years ago, the House Subcommittee for Indigenous Peoples of the United States held a hearing on the murder and disappearance of Native women. Native women are murdered on reservations at a rate ten times the national average; there were more than five thousand reported cases of missing Native women in 2016 alone, and many more cases go unreported. Among the witnesses at the hearing was Mary Kathryn Nagle, the legal counsel for the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center and an enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. Nagle, in her testimony, noted that tribal nations do not have legal jurisdiction over non-Natives who commit crimes on reservations. This is one of the reasons, she said, that those who assault or murder Native women are so rarely caught and prosecuted.
