West Cheshire chief among those calling for Government to publish rail investment plan


POLITICAL and business leaders in the North – including Cheshire West and Chester Council s Louise Gittins – are calling on the Government to urgently publish a long-term plan for the region’s railways in order to give certainty on investment and delivery of major projects.
Through Transport for the North (TfN), they say the Government must publish the Integrated Rail Plan (IRP) for the North and Midlands as soon as possible to avoid delays to delivery of schemes including Northern Powerhouse Rail and HS2 in the North.
The IRP is seen as a key pillar of the levelling-up agenda. It’s anticipated to detail the level of infrastructure spend over the coming decades – how major projects will integrate, and when and how they’ll be delivered. ....

Boss of eco-friendly Iceland urges North Wales companies to join green crusade


THE UK’s “greenest grocer” has launched an appeal to companies across North Wales to join the carbon zero crusade to help save the planet.
The call to arms from Richard Walker, the managing director of pioneering eco-aware supermarket Iceland which has stores across the region, came ahead of Net Zero 2021, a major online business conference.
Themes at the conference include Energy and Transport, Manufacturing, Tourism and Hospitality, Food and Retail and Buildings and Construction and the event runs from 9:30am to 3.45pm on Thursday, May 20.
Iceland was the first supermarket to sign up to the worldwide Carbon Pledge to become carbon neutral by 2040, ten years ahead of the UK Government’s 2050 target. ....
