Valerie Still was recently diagnosed with chronic rheumatic condition Fibromyalgia after suffering years of excruciating pain. The condition leaves her with brain fog, double vision, dizziness and makes her legs feel like they are “on fire”. In doing so, Howard became the first Kentucky player to ever earn First-Team All-American honors from the four major organizations. For the second year in a row, the Associated Press tabbed Howard a first-team All-America – the first player ever to earn that honor from the AP. She followed by being named a Wooden Award All-American for the second straight year. Friday, she earned her second straight All-America honor from the United States Basketball Writers Association. This is the first All-America honor from the WBCA for Howard, who was tabbed All-America Honorable Mention by the WBCA in 2019 and 2020. ....
Rhyne Howard Named USBWA First Team All-American Saturday, April 3, 2021 - photo by Rhyne Howard University of Kentucky women’s basketball junior guard Rhyne Howard has been named a first-team All-America honoree by the United States Basketball Writers Association, marking her third first-team All-America honor this season.
The USBWA, formed in 1956, has named a women s All-America team since the 1987-88 season. The association has also named a national player of the year – now known as the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award – since 1987-88 and a national coach of the year since 1989-90. In 2002-03, the USBWA initiated an award for the nation s top freshman, which Howard won in 2019. Last year, Howard joined Victoria Dunlap and A dia Mathies as the only players in program history to earn All-America honors from the organization.
