Dorset residents suffering from pain can access services online


PEOPLE suffering with on-going pain issues can now learn how to access support online, saving time and travel costs.
Dorset HealthCare’s Pain Management Service has developed a new introduction process for patients referred to it for help.
The service has changed the way it works as a result of the pandemic, which has limited opportunities for face-to-face group meetings.
Now, instead of having to travel to a pre-arranged appointment, patients referred and accepted into the service watch a new animated video.
Created in collaboration with volunteer ‘Experts by Experience’, the video provides information on what to expect from the service and how the team will work with people to help them manage long-term pain. Those unable to access the video can have a one-to-one appointment with a pain management practitioner. ....

Health chiefs have defended a decision to tell a disabled woman to self-manage her chronic pain


HEALTH chiefs have defended a decision to tell a disabled woman fighting cuts at IRH to self-manage her chronic pain.
Lesley Roberts has been in lengthy discussion with health professionals over acupuncture and other treatment options she previously received at Inverclyde Royal s Pain Clinic.
After meeting with a consultant, Ms Roberts - who suffers from fibromyalgia as the result of an injury - was advised to refer to an NHS website for self-managed treatments .
Lesley said: For a consultant and physiotherapist to say that the physio department are now moving away from hands-on treatment raises questions.
Why was I encouraged to attend the physiotherapy department for a number of years for hands-on input which kept me functioning and able to go to work? ....
