A group of first-year School of Medicine students are working to increase the accessibility of COVID-19 information for non-English speaking residents of Worcester. The students recruited volunteers to provide multilingual services and materials on the coronavirus and COVID-19 vaccines.

Maia Fefer, Sarah Danforth, Sabine Shaughnessy and Laura Labb are all fluent Spanish speakers. Their group provides document translation, in-person vaccine clinic translation and one-on-one phone calls in a variety of languages, in collaboration with the student-run Crisis and Emergency Preparedness Committee. ....

NEWSCENTER 5’S JENNIFER EAGAN IS LIVE NOW AT ST. VINCENT HOSPITAL WITH HOW MUCH LONGER THIS COULD GO ON. THIS IS AN OPEN-ENDED STRIKE AREA THE NURSES WILL BE OUT HERE STRIKING EVERY DAY FROM 6:00 IN THE MORNING UNTIL MIDNIGHT UNTIL THEY REACH AN AGREEMENT. [CHEERING] NURSES WORKING OVERNIGHT AT ST. VINCENT HOSPITAL IN WORCESTER ENDED THEIR SHIFT AND JOINED THE PICKET LINE, MANY WERE EMOTIONAL AS THEY WENT ON STRIKE AT 6:00 THIS MORNING. WE DON’T WANT TO WALK, WE DON’T WANT TO GO OUT, WE DON’T WANT TO LEAVE OUR PATIENTS. BUT CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE HOSPITAL HAVE BROKEN DOWN. THE UNION IS DEMANDING NURSES HAVE NO MORE THAN 4 PATIENTS AT ONCE. JESSICA O’MALLEY SAYS ON THE ICU SHE CARES FOR 5 PEOPLE AT A TIME. IT� ....
