The Black Sash says there is no rationale for the special Covid-19 social relief of distress (SRD) grant of R350 to be terminated.
“Many people have relied on the grant which kept them from starvation,” Black Sash national advocacy manager Hoodah Abrahams-Fayker said on Thursday.
She was addressing a media briefing on the eve of the termination of the SRD grants, which are set to expire on Friday.
Traders ask govt to withdraw directives on market closure

PESHAWAR: The traders here on Saturday asked the government to withdraw its directives regarding the closure of the markets at 6pm.
Speaking at a meeting, Ghulam Bilal Javed, President Traders Alliance and Provincial Chairman National Peace Council, said the traders could no longer afford to comply with the directives of the government.
The meeting unanimously passed a resolution calling upon the government to allow businesses to remain open from 10 am to 12pm for seven days a week in Ramadan.
He said closing businesses at 6pm and keeping the markets closed two days a week would cause immense loss to the business community.

The SA Informal Traders Alliance (Saita) has welcomed the budget allocation of R4bn to the department of small business development to support rural and township-based enterprises.
“As always the devil is in delivery, and therefore would like to be able to monitor the implementation of this budget closely to ensure it reaches its intended recipients. As we always say, nothing about us, without us,” said Rosheda Muller, national president of the alliance.
