KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency has started the process of attaching properties owned by the Shaheen Airlines International (SAI), whose licence has been suspended since 2018, as part of its investigations into a money laundering case against the management, it emerged on Friday. According to officials and documents reviewed by Dawn, the FIA registered a case against SAI in 2020 for causing a loss of Rs2.1 billion to the Civil Aviation Authority. Besides, the airline was also accused of causing a loss of Rs200 million to Sialkot Airport, FIA deputy director Rauf Sheikh said. Money laundering case lodged against jewellery exporter The airline had also committed ‘wilful default’ amounting to Rs11bn against the Habib Bank Limited and Rs50m wilful default against the United Bank Limited, he said, adding the owners established firms in the UAE and purchased properties in Pakistan and abroad with this money. ....

SMEDA to set up digital platforms Business January 15, 2021 LAHORE: The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) is going to implement the government-recommended e-commerce regulatory framework to incentivise the establishment of digital platforms for facilitating SMEs in accessing online markets, both at local and international levels. Addressing a joint meeting of SMEDA and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) officials, SMEDA CEO Hashim Raza briefed the TDAP team about SMEDA’s current initiatives and regular activities for the facilitation of SMEs and assured to share a proposal for the development of e-Commerce sector in Pakistan. The TDAP and SMEDA should together work to fill the marketing gap created due to the coronavirus pandemic for Pakistani exports, and suggested arranging online platforms for SMEs dealing in exports. ....

Business January 15, 2021 KARACHI: The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) has arranged an orientation session with leading textile companies of Pakistan and sponsors of the first Virtual Texpo from February 1 to 15, 2021, a statement said on Thursday. The introductory session was attended by the representatives of Gul Ahmed Textiles Ltd (Platinum category sponsor), Interloop Textile Mills Ltd (Gold category sponsor), Chen One Ltd, Soorty Enterprises, and Masood Textile Ltd (Silver categories sponsor), it added.
