By JIM SPEHAR Iâm inspired by Rachel Sauerâs columns in the Sunday Daily Sentinel. And jealous, since theyâre often of the âWish Iâd written thatâ variety. Her effort last weekend was no exception. Rachelâs humorous excerpts from various âYou know youâre from Colorado ifâ¦â lists as well as her own additions, brought to mind similar efforts from yours truly beginning in January 2006. The response to those âBoomer Timesâ columns in the late Grand Junction Free Press was overwhelming. Even I donât have originals of all of them. The Free Press ran out of copies of the Thursday papers in which they appeared. Readers asked for e-mail versions, which I happily supplied until the flash drive to which Iâd saved the initial columns went AWOL. â Leo Tolstoy Thirty-five years ago, Brian Mahoney and Larry Jones had a dream. Decades later we walk and bike the paved paths of the Riverfront Trail. Post-COVID, weâll once again attend concerts at the Las Colonias Amphitheater. My granddaughter will be able to enjoy one of her favorite outings at the River Park at Las Colonias while boaters and paddlers put in at the nearby launch. New jobs are being created at Las Colonias business park and on the other side of Fifth Street at the Riverfront at Dos Rios. The trail once limited to a small stretch of the Colorado River in Grand Junction now spans the Grand Valley from Palisade on the east out to Fruita and Loma and includes two of the three sections of the Colorado River State Park. ....
Engineering partnership among Fosterâs triumphs The Grand Junction community and the state of Colorado are fortunate to have benefitted from Tim Fosterâs tireless leadership of Colorado Mesa University for the past 17 years. Together, we have collaborated with him in our roles as a fellow university president and the chair of the CU Board of Regents (as well as a previous member of the CMU board). We have found Tim to be someone who always has a sharp focus on the best interests of his students, campus, community and state. We are proud of the many partnerships between CMU and CU, particularly our engineering partnership in which CMU students are taught by CU and CMU faculty in Grand Junction and earn a CU degree. The partnership greatly expands the highly skilled workforce Colorado needs. ....

The shoelace was a nod to Webb’s first mayoral campaign, when he ran out of money and walked the city in his tennis shoes to meet voters.
