HOUSTON – There’s a new zebra in town.
Rosalita, a Grant’s zebra, came to the Houston Zoo from Brownsville. Rosalita is nearly a year old and joins the Houston Zoo’s 8-year-old female, Kapuki.
Guests who formerly spotted stripes at the zoo in the giraffe barn can now visit zebras in their new location near the entrance of the African Forest, next to the pygmy hippo habitat.
There are three species of zebras: Grevy’s, mountain, and plains. Grant’s zebras are the smallest subspecies of plains zebras and have broad, well-defined stripes. They are herbivores, and their diet consists of grasses and hay. Grant’s zebras live in the savannahs of east and south Africa. ....

Live zebra mussels, which are an invasive species, have been discovered in moss (marimo) balls, a spherical, plant-like algae commonly sold at pet and garden stores throughout North America, including in Alberta.
Albertans should destroy moss balls by freezing or boiling them, then placing the moss balls in a sealed plastic bag and disposing of them with their household trash. Moss balls, and any water they were in, should not be flushed down the toilet, put down a drain or placed in a compost. ....

Olympic gold medalist gymnast Gabby Douglas is the first-ever winner of “The Masked Dancer,” having scored the show’s diamond mask trophy after being revealed as Cotton Candy.
Douglas was victorious despite facing off with two trained dancers in the finale. Runner-up Sloth turned out to be “Dancing with the Stars’” Maksim Chmerkovskiy. And in third place was Tulip, who was revealed to be Mackenzie Ziegler (“Dance Moms”).

Douglas was unmasked after dancing to “This Is Me,” by Kesha. The panelists were torn between whether the Cotton Candy was a gymnast or an ice skater.
