It hasn’t.
It wasn’t.
However, the site itself has historic origins.
The site was the spot where the original Hell’s Blazes Tavern was built in 1690 and was reported to be the oldest operating tavern in the nation. Hell’s Blazes was ironically destroyed in a fire in 1971. It was rebuilt and served as a private club for a little while before it once again opened to the public.
The stone wall with its welcoming arched entrance and hand-set stones was built in 1972 making the wall only 49 years old.
There’s a dedication plaque near the doorway entrance attached to the wall that says it was built by Harmon Brown along with his sons Robert and Richard, and Thomas Tubman who “tended them.”
