The state of Wyoming will receive more than $3 million to go towards education as part of COVID-19 relief funds. The Wyoming Department of Education recently submitted its plan on how that money will be used.
Last summer, state officials cautioned school districts across the state to prepare for budget cuts. But in a turn of events, lawmakers failed to agree on the specifics of a bill that would have cut $135 million from schools over three years. Wyoming Public Radio's Catherine Wheeler looked into how districts chose to handle the dilemma to move ahead with cuts or stay where they are.
The award was established in partnership with the Wyoming Department of Education.
The council s arts education specialist Mary Billiter said the award promotes awareness and appreciation of the arts. One of our goals is making arts fundamental to education, particularly in supporting our programs and our educators, and raising them and putting them in the focal point for the good work that they re doing, said Billiter.
It also helps highlight educators creativity and leadership in education, Billiter said. The importance of art education is paramount to a full education for our students. And there are so many innovative practices our art educators are implementing right now that we really wanted to recognize, she said.
Despite the pandemic throwing schools for a loop at the end of last year, Wyoming’s high schoolers still found their way through high school’s final hoops.
