The A.V. Club's 2021 Oscar predictions

Prediction: One year after
Parasite’s historic victory, will the Academy have another uncommon spell of good taste? The stars appear to be aligning for
Nomadland, which has won the top prize from the Hollywood Foreign Press, the British Academy, the Producers Guild, and the Directors Guild (the last three of which share lots of members with the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences). But don’t pop the bubbly for last year’s most critically acclaimed movie just yet. After all,
1917 won all of those same precursors, only to lose Best Picture at the finish line.
Parasite, which swooped in for the upset, came into Oscar night with the Screen Actors Guild ensemble award under its belt. This year, that went to ....

Hollywood’s biggest night of the year is here. Finally. After a two-month pandemic-caused postponement, the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony is this Sunday, April 25, at 8 pm. And happily, it will be in person, not virtual (unlike February’s disastrous Hollywood Foreign Press Golden Globes show).
But this year’s show promises to be unlike any other in history. For starters, it will broadcast from two locations, not one, to accommodate for COVID-19 safety protocols: there will be an intimate ceremony at Los Angeles’ Union Station, along with live elements from the Dolby Theatre, the affair’s traditional setting. And forget bleachers packed with screaming fans. Only presenters, nominees, and their guests will be on hand.  ....

Who's Going to Win Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress at the 2021 Oscars? Rotten Tomatoes – Movie and TV News

The Role: Ma Rainey, the Mother of the Blues and leader of her band. The groundbreaking musician and LGBTQ icon was once dubbed the ugliest woman in show business, and with the aid of false teeth, horsehair wigs, elaborate gowns, and a fat suit, Oscar winner Viola Davis gave life to the woman whose voice would have hundreds queuing up for hours just hear her croon or catch a glimpse of her on stage. Davis embodied not just Rainey’s presence on stage but also her steadfast determination not to allow anyone to diminish or dismiss her worth.
The Odds: Currently, there isn’t a clear frontrunner for Best Actress. Andra Day won the Golden Globe, Carey Mulligan took home the Critics Choice, and Frances McDormand won the BAFTA, but we are giving Viola Davis’ win at the SAG Awards the most weight and believe she will be our likely winner. This is fitting as her pedigree and previous Oscar nomination warrant it, and her only win was for a Supporting Role; she is more than over ....
