THE new chairman of BCP Council’s standards board has been left hurt and upset by “unkind” Twitter posts over his lack of experience after he was elected to the post last week. In an unorthodox move, Cllr Daniel Butt, who only joined the council in 2019, has written to all councillors and chief executive, Graham Farrant, saying he is unhappy – but he is not making a formal complaint. He said: “I would ask that all members please stop using social media to personally attack other members.” And he added: “I simply ask that we all draw a line under this upsetting event and ensure that we do everything possible to uphold the Code of Conduct and hopefully make every effort to be kind to each other in future.” ....

MORE than 150 objections have flooded in against plans to build more than 50 homes on the side of one of Christchurch s busiest roads. Residents and ward councillors have voiced their concerns about the proposals for the site at the corner of Barrack Road and The Grove. As reported, Fortitudo Ltd is seeking outline planning permission for 51 apartments and four dwelling houses. The application, which has been submitted to BCP Council planners, has sparked a large response from the community. ....

School Committee member Jean Wall, who is heading the Superintendent Search Committee, said she chose more people than she had expected she originally said there would be 12 to 13 on the committee, and instead there are 17 including her. Wall began accepting letters of interest from parents, teachers, principals, union members, school administrators, business leaders, city councilors and anyone else who would like to help choose the Greenfield School Department’s next superintendent several weeks ago. She received 28 letters of interest and a few people spoke to her about helping. ....
