PETALING JAYA: Malaysians must be aware of misinformation spread on the Covid-19 vaccine, says Wanita MCA. Its chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie said the public must be cautious of smear campaigns from anti-vaxxer groups who have malicious intentions to diminish the effectiveness of the vaccines. There may be rare cases of the vaccine being ineffective, but the overall effectiveness as shown in clinical trials will demonstrate that being vaccinated is still our best chance against the virus. “Therefore, stop hesitating and register yourselves for vaccination today, ” she said in a statement on Thursday (March 11). Wanita MCA chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie pointed out that the issue had already been addressed in Indonesia in 2019. She said, in a statement on Wednesday (March 10), that Indonesia s House of Representatives had unanimously agreed in 2019 to a revision of the country s marriage law to increase the legal age to marry to 19 years old. If lawmakers from both sides of the divide in Malaysia’s most populous neighbouring country can set aside political differences to protect minors from child marriages and raise their minimum legal nuptial age to 19, it becomes more incumbent for Malaysia and our MPs to take a similar progressive stance to amend laws and state enactments to elevate the minimum legal age to wed to 18. ....
