Rhino census scheduled from March 22 »

KATHMANDU: The rhino census which was suspended due to the coronavirus crisis last year will be taking place from March 22 this year.
Four parks in the country have the presence of rhinos. The census is taking place simultaneously in Chitwan and Parsa while it will be conducted at different times in Bardiya and Shuklaphanta national parks.
The Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conversation has decided to launch the census from the Pratapur of Parsa National Park which has been kept under the Chitwan Block.
According to Department of Information officer and environmentalist Hari Bhadra Acharya, the census will take place simultaneously in Chitwan and Parsa. ....

The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden recently welcomed 11 young alligator snapping turtles to their temporary home in the Zoo’s Underground habitat, located inside the Children’s Zoo.
Hatched at the Tishomingo National Fish Hatchery (TNFH), Tishomingo, Oklahoma, the turtles are a part of their head start program to raise, rear and introduce alligator snapping turtles back into their native habitat.
The Zoo just received the first group of young alligator snapping turtles in partnership with TNFH and will continue to receive additional turtles as they continue to age out of the head start program. The turtles will live at the Zoo’s Underground habitat until they have reached four years of age. At that time, they will be returned to TNFH, and then the turtles will be released into the wild. ....

Jan. 14 (UPI) Six trapped manatees were rescued at Pine island Conversation Area in Florida by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission.
The FWC Fish and Wildlife Research Institute posted photos of the rescue on Facebook Thursday and noted that the manatees likely got into the refuge system by swimming over a concrete weir during a high-water event that later didn t allow them to swim out.

Five of the six manatees were rescued first, with four of them released back into the wild following a health assessment.
The fifth manatee is being rehabilitated at Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens. ....
