SARANAC LAKE â U.S. Sens. Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten E. Gillibrand announced Thursday that more than $1 million in federal funding is available to help businesses in the region recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. The money will set up the Adirondack North Country Associationâs Center for Pandemic Response, a project to work with local businesses navigating the post-pandemic comeback in crafting recovery plans and build resilience into the regional economy. The senators said in a statement that the $1,013,534 in funding translates into at least 210 jobs created and 1,425 more preserved. ANCA covers Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties, as well as Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Herkimer, Saratoga, Warren and Washington counties. ....

Smith’s company, J&J Signs and other contractors are benefiting from a local small business assistance program primarily designed to help downtown businesses make improvements that they otherwise might not be able to afford. Folks who regularly visit downtown Silver City may have noticed a trend over the past year: new signs popping up on the spiffed-up exteriors of businesses. Javalina Coffee House, Birdwell’s Vintage Vibes, Lotus Center and the Gila Gallery were among 22 businesses last year that received awards of between $500 and $2,500 through the COVID-19 Small Business Assistance Program, and put the money toward coats of paint, lighting, new signs and other improvements. ....

(Photo courtesy of Little Tokyo Community Council) The Little Tokyo Community Council (LTCC) has awarded a total of $100,000 in grant funding to 50 small businesses in Little Tokyo that have faced significant revenue losses as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the first round of distributions in November 2020, $2,000 grants were given to 25 of the community’s small businesses, a majority of them being legacy small businesses that have been open for more than 20 years, and the second round will help support 25 more treasured businesses that contribute to the cultural identity of the neighborhood. ....
