Education Minister: Adjusting CSEC, CAPE would be hard

EDUCATION Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly has said the recommendations made by the United Nations Children s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to make adjustments for students sitting CSEC and CAPE exams would be difficult to adopt.
Gadsby-Dolly said the Caribbean Examinations Council CXC has said to adopt the recommendations made by the Caribbean Union of Teachers and supported by UNICEF would incur significant costs and push the exams back to a July 26 start.
In a text message on Wednesday the minister said, “This is viewed by most countries as difficult due to the domino effect it would have on the release of results and students matriculation into universities, Form Six etc.” ....

Scarborough Secondary student Dejean Lewis, 18, has been described as a role model for other young people.
With excellent school grades, his own business and a plan for his career, he seems to fit that description perfectly.

UTM students want to return home for Raya

JOHOR BARU: More than 800 students of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) have expressed their intention to return home for Hari Raya, according to its deputy vice-chancellor (student affairs) Prof Dr Shamsul Sahibuddin.
He said this was based on special forms filled up by some 25% of the 3,200 students in the campus who wished to make the Hari Raya journey.
“So far, the university has decided to allocate six buses to carry students home to the East, North and Central Zones and four buses in the South Zone.
“The buses will be making trips from May 6 to 11, ” he said in a statement here yesterday. ....
