KALISPELL â May 15 is Peace Officer Memorial Day across the State of Montana.
The Kalispell Police Department are honoring fallen law enforcement on Saturday by hosting a parade down main street and a ceremony at the Northwest Montana Fairgrounds.
âYou know really the families that are left behind, to say you havenât been forgotten, that you matter,â Kalispell Police Chief Doug Overman tells MTN News.
Overman said the ceremony will include guest speakers and a slideshow honoring the 143 law enforcement officers in the State of Montana who were killed in the line of duty. ....

A Funeral Service was held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Fredericksburg, with Pastor Michael Bremer celebrating the service. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery with Lennie Drewelow, Bill Drewelow, Duane Carpenter, Steve Pleggenkuhle, Brad Ellison, Dean Rowe and Harold Doc Nordaas serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Papa s grands.
Friends greeted the family from 4 - 8 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Fredericksburg. Visitation continued an hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. ....

KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) - Less than six months after former President Donald Trump signed Bison Range Restoration legislation, there are big changes at the 19,000-acre facility in Northwest Montana as it opens this weekend.
The facility is now called the Bison Range and is in federal trust ownership for the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. Congress passed the act and Trump signed it Dec. 27, 2020. ....

Tom Kuka has been ranching on the Blackfeet Reservation for nearly 30 years. His ranch is about 20 miles east of the Rocky Mountain Front, where jagged peaks meet sprawling prairie. And Kuka, like many on the front, unwillingly shares his ranch with grizzly bears.
You just have to be aware all the time, Kuka said. I ve run into sows and cubs, but they ve seen me first, but one day it might not be that way.
He worries for the safety of himself, his family and his livelihood. Kuka said he loses about 15 calves every year to grizzlies, a loss he estimates to be worth between $12,000 and $15,000. ....
