Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church will host a public ribbon cutting and planting ceremony for its new community garden Thursday at 1 p.m. The garden is located behind the church, at the southeast corner of Colonial Way and Library Lane. The garden consists of four raised beds with a plan to construct 16 more during the coming year. Munseyâs goal is to be able to provide fresh produce to its downtown neighbors as well as the families of North Side Elementary School. âThereâs so much food insecurity thatâs taking place, especially among our downtown neighbors,â said Steve Wheeler, missions coordinator. âWe are trying to fill that void. We are inviting our neighbors to participate in the garden as well. We want them to have invested interest in the gardenâs success.â ....
ROME CITY â With the 2020-21 school year nearly complete, the East Noble School Corp. is looking ahead to the 2021-22 year. Superintendent Ann Linson updated the school board during Wednesday nightâs meeting on the safety protocols, which will be in place in anticipation of a continuation of the pandemic deeper into 2021. âA lot can change between now and August,â Linson said. âWe are hoping things will be business as usual. To make that happen, we need more people to get the vaccine.â For the most part, the plan presented for in-person learning mirrors the current plan in place. âTo ensure the safety of our students, East Noble School Corp. will follow guidance and mandates provided by the Indiana Department of Health, Noble County Department of Health and the Indiana Department of Education,â Linson advised. ....
While school districts were closed down this time a year ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic, food service workers throughout northeast Indiana continued to perform their jobs above and beyond anything they ever dreamed possible. âIt was a learning curve that changed rapidly and frequently,â said Stephanie Haynes-Clifford, food service director for the Metropolitan School District of Steuben County. âI think they responded absolutely wonderful,â she said. âFood service professionals are in these buildings every day feeding these children because they care about them and they want to know theyâre taken care of. âTheyâre obviously not in it because of the money, and in these unprecedented times, they were willing to step up and do what was necessary to continue to feed their children.â ....
