The latest planning applications received by South Lakeland District Council

Hundreds new cases recorded in South Lakeland as Covid rate spikes

PRIME Minister Boris Johnson has confirmed that freedom day will go ahead as planned - despite coronavirus rates in South Lakeland continuing to rise. Social distancing regulations are set to come to an end and mask-wearing will become a matter of ‘personal choice’ from July 19, Boris Johnson announced on Monday. The decision paves the way for groups of more than six people from multiple households to hang out indoors, and for nightclubs to get the smoke machines back on. Despite mask-wearing no longer being a legal requirement, some businesses are still choosing for customers to wear face coverings upon entry.

Pharmaceutical company GSK propose site restructuring plan in Ulverston

A PHARMACEUTICAL company has maintained its commitment to investing in its Ulverston site despite its recent announcement of quitting in four years. GlaxoSmithKline has applied to South Lakeland District Council for permission for a proposed development to reuse existing and redundant building stock and turn it into a new canteen for workers. A spokeswoman for GSK said: “We made a decision to re-purpose some buildings on site following the announcement to cease sterile manufacturing in 2018. “As part of these commitments to create right-sized and new facilities to continue investment in the site and our people, we are bringing facilities – including canteen facilities – closer to the centre of the site where the majority of our teams work.
