It should be noted that failure to operate motorized scooters safely and in accordance with Florida statutes has recently become a rampant and very dangerous problem in the urban core since several businesses have started making electric motorized scooters available to the public for rent, Officer J.R. Peppers wrote. The City Council approved the bill authorizing the “dockless mobility programs for a year, allowing bicycles and scooters with electric batteries “for point-to-point trips” in a designated downtown area. ....

The latest was a man shot Wednesday morning in the 100 block of West 23rd Street, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said. Police are looking for a dark four-door sedan possibly involved. Multiple 911 calls led officers to respond to the area about 11 a.m., Sgt. Steve Rudlaff said. There they found the victim, 30 to 35 years old, lying on a sidewalk near North Laura Street with multiple gunshot wounds. There was possibly a car in the area, seen twice, Rudlaff said. The gunfire was in the street, we can only assume possibly from the car, but we can t be sure if they exited the vehicle. ....

The Sheriff’s Office said it got multiple 911 calls shortly after 11 a.m. about gunfire in the area of North Laura Street and West 23rd Street. Police said they responded and found the man, described as being between 30 and 35 years old, with multiple gunshot wounds. The Sheriff’s Office said he was taken to UF Health hospital, where he died. Police said they’re looking for a dark-colored four-door sedan that was seen twice in the area at the time of the gunfire. They said it’s unknown how many people were in the car or if anyone got out of the car. ....
One person was killed and two others were injured in a crash early Sunday morning at Main and Union streets in downtown Jacksonville, police said. ....
