Atkins girls soccer team has been dominating opponents all season, and that trend continued as the Camels cruised to a 7-0 win over Western Piedmont 2A foe North Surry on Thursday.
A trio of underclassmen scored braces for Atkins (10-0, 9-0), with sophomore Allison Wiebking, sophomore Austin Huffman and freshman Aaryn Gabriel scoring two goals apiece. Freshman Mahala Sherrell put the final cherry on top with the seventh goal.
The Camels ranked No. 20 in the West in HighSchoolOT s mid-season rankings dominated possession right from opening kickoff, playing the majority of the game inside the Greyhounds (3-4, 3-4) defensive half. Huffman played a brilliant through ball into Wiebking, who rounded the North Surry keeper for the easy tap-in goal to make it 1-0 in the seventh minute.

Bumble bees are welcome additions in early spring. The containers of pansies are colorful as we reach toward the end of March. The bumblebees visit the pansies every afternoon. Very few flowers are in bloom in late March and the bumblebees are attracted to the bright colors of the pansies. The pansies have been in bloom for most of the winter and are now a haven for the early bumblebees of spring. The pansies will have flowers until the end of April. It will be hard to pull them up to replace with the annuals of spring and summer. We will miss the pansies and their pretty faces but the bumblebees will be around to enjoy the summer annuals.

“I watched presentations about the facilities and maintenance projects as a part of the class competition,” said SCC President Dr. David Shockley. “I was so proud of our employees detailing how they will make their areas lean and more efficient. Other areas of the college team will go through lean training including human resources, finance, technology services, and advising.”
