Jazz at Victoria Yards Summer Series – Mac Arnold & Plate Full o’ Blues JazzArts Charlotte is excited to announce a new outdoor summer series at Victoria Yards in uptown Charlotte In partnership with Charlotte Center City Partners. This outdoor series of shows features a variety of the region’s top jazz musicians, to rock the stage at uptown Victoria Yards. In May, we bring you Mac Arnold and the Plate Full ‘o Blues, bringing the foundation of blues, soul, and funk. South Carolinian band leader and guitarist Mac Arnold studied the blues at the feet of none other than James Brown and the Muddy Waters Band, helping shape the electric blues sound that inspired the rock and roll movement. This blues crew includes Austin Brashier on guitar, Max Hightower on keyboards and harmonica, and Dizzy Dizzy on drums. ....
‘Day of the Books’ Drive-Thru Celebration Delivers Hundreds of Bilingual Books to Siler City Children The Chatham County Partnership for Children’s annual Day of the Books celebration distributed about 200 new and used bilingual books in English and Spanish to nearly 150 children last Saturday at Bray Park. “The Day of the Books 2021 went even better than we thought it would,” the Partnership’s program director, Elizabeth Anderson, told the News + Record. “We weren’t sure what to expect with a drive-thru event during the middle of a pandemic, but the drive-thru format of the event worked very well and we had a larger turnout than expected.” ....
May 09, 2021 The Mount Airy Photography Club is hosting Charlotte-based music photographer, Daniel Coston, at the Historic Earle Theatre on Tuesday, May 18, at 7 p.m. The presentation is free and is open to the public. Coston will discuss his photography career. Entitled “On the Way to Here,” the talk will focus on his years photographing legendary musicians and personalities. Many photos in his presentation have never before been seen. He will also be sharing stories about surviving in the business of photography. Coston has been to Mount Airy several times during his career that has focused on North Carolina musicians including several from Surry County. His extensive body of work represents many genres and a diversity of backgrounds and cultural experiences. He has the hope that his work will give visitors an experience and a personal connection to the music of North Carolina and celebrate musical styles from old-time, blues and jazz, to folk, rock, bluegrass a ....
