The Massachusetts Department of Transportation uses a methodology to rank the state’s intersections, weighing crashes that resulted in injuries higher than those that just left property damage.
MassDOT’s most recent report, the 2017 Top Crash Locations Report, which was released in September, can be used as a first brush tool to evaluate top crash locations and improve road safety, according to the agency. The report focuses on intersections and is based on crashes entered into the Registry of Motor Vehicles’ Crash Data System. ....

Fatal crash involving motorcycle reported in North Florida

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. Northbound lanes of US-17 are now open Thursday morning in Putnam County following a fatal crash involving a motorcycle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers say all northbound lanes at North Boundary Road would be closed for an extended period of time. The lanes were reported open as of 10 a.m.
Around 5:30 a.m., FHP says a blue Harley Davidson Electra Glide was traveling northbound on US-17 in the left lane. Troopers say around the same time, a white Ford Transit Van was stopped at the stop sign eastbound on N Boundary Road and then attempted to cross over the northbound lanes of US-17 to access the southbound lanes. ....

Putnam County crash on U.S. 17 kills corrections officer

A 44-year-old Putnam County corrections officer died in a pre-dawn motorcycle crash on U.S. 17 in San Mateo, according to the Florida Highway Patrol and Sheriff s Office.
Mark Elam was riding his Harley-Davidson north at North Boundary Road about 5:30 a.m. when he was hit by a van driven by a 39-year-old woman, the Highway Patrol said. She had stopped at North Boundary Road, then tried to cross U.S. 17 when the collision occurred.
Elam was on his way to work. Sheriff H.D. “Gator” DeLoach posthumously promoted him to captain after being notified, saying the 18-year veteran left an indelible impression on everyone he met.” ....
