NORTH SALT LAKE, Utah â A man suspected of assaulting a North Salt Lake mail carrier in March has been arrested in New Mexico.
A joint investigation between North Salt Lake Police and federal postal inspectors resulted in the arrest of 31-year-old Akuso Amituanai.
According to police, the assault was a case of road rage. Detectives said Amituanai became angry because he believed the mail carrier had cut him off in traffic. ....

NORTH SALT LAKE A man is in police custody after they say he swung a metal rod at officers during a SWAT situation that closed Legacy Parkway in Davis County on Wednesday.
About 11 a.m. Wednesday, police from Woods Cross began following the man, who was driving erratically in a pickup truck that had spray-painted windows, as well as a United States flag obscuring the back window and license plate, according to North Salt Lake Police Sgt. Mitch Gwilliam. They attempted to stop the truck, but the driver fled and Woods Cross police eventually stopped chasing him in Bountiful because of how erratically he was driving. ....

LAYTON – Some Utah police departments gathered in Layton where a company demonstrated a new nonlethal tool that could be used to constrain suspects.
It s called the BolaWrap and would be used in specific situations designed to help police stop people who are suffering a personal crisis without doing any harm.
It sounds a bit like a gun when it is deployed. A cord with hooks on the ends is ejected, wrapping snuggly around the suspect s torso or legs.
Officers can deploy the device remotely, from anywhere between 10-to-25 feet, and safely detain a person, said Becky Crannis-Curl, a master instructor for Wrap Technologies. ....
