Coastal weather warnings raised by BOM

Weather warnings have been raised by the Bureau of Meteorology for the Byron coast for hazardous surf and strong marine wind.
The hazardous surf warning, issued at 6.46am on Tuesday, explained surf and swell conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, boating, and swimming in the Byron coast.
NSW Police Force, Marine Area Command advised that people should consider staying out of the water and avoid walking near surf-exposed areas.
Rock fishers should avoid coastal rock platforms exposed to the ocean and seek a safe location that is sheltered from the surf. ....

Flood watch issued for parts of the Northern Rivers


Minor flooding is possible for the Tweed and Brunswick rivers from Monday.
The warning was issued by the Bureau of Meteorology on Thursday.
Heavy rainfall associated with a deepening low pressure trough off the northern coast has the potential to cause minor flooding in parts of the Northern Rivers early next week, the warning said.
The low pressure trough may potentially deepen off the northern coast early next week, bringing showery conditions along much of the New South Wales coast.
This added to the fact that catchments in the flood watch area were still wet from recent rainfall.
River rises are expected in the flood watch catchments in response to the forecast rain and minor flooding may develop from Monday, the warning read. ....

SES: Minor flood warning for Lismore and Billinudgel

Update Saturday 9.30am: Minor flooding is occurring along the Wilsons River at Lismore, the SES has confirmed.
After heavy rainfall was recorded across the Wilsons River catchment on Friday evening, significant river level rises have been observed in the Wilson River catchment overnight.
The Wilsons River at Lismore (AHD) may peak near 5.20 metres around midday Saturday, with
minor flooding, the SES confirmed.
People upstream of the Rowing Club River Gauge should allow for a level at least 60 cm higher than the gauge reading due to the flood slope.
• Residents and businesses in the Lismore Basin may experience localised flash flooding prior to river rises. ....

Weather stations in Green Pigeon (Kyogle Shire), Corndale (Lismore) and Nimbin recorded the highest amount of rainfall for the NSW Far North Coast in the last 24 hours up to 9am today.
The Bureau of Meteorology published the information on its website earlier today.
The Green Pigeon station recorded 90.2mm of rain, with Corndale registering 67mm and Nimbin at 65mm.
The highest rainfall recorded in a coastal area was Boat Harbour (Tweed/Byron), with 35mm.
A number of Northern Rivers and Tweed stations recorded no rainfall data for today.
