Wendell Young: Indicted Cincinnati councilman facing suspension

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A special prosecutor tells FOX19 NOW he plans to ask the Ohio Supreme Court to initiate suspension proceedings against Cincinnati City Councilman Wendell Young following his felony indictment.
“I think so. You have an elected official who committed a felony. It’s just appropriate he be suspended,” Patrick Hanley said Wednesday morning.
Hanley said he plans to file motions with the Ohio Supreme Court either this week or next week for sure to begin that process.
Under state law, Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor would then appoint a panel of judges to review evidence in the case and decide whether to suspend Young. ....

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Ohio Auditor Keith Faber said Monday the indictment of Cincinnati City Councilman Wendell Young “is a step toward holding elected officials accountable.”
“Ohioans deserve transparency in their governments and I’m proud of the experienced law enforcement arm of our office, the Special Investigative Unit, who brought this crime to light,” Faber said in his first remarks since Young was indicted.
Meanwhile, an investigation by Faber’s Special Investigative Unit within the state auditor’s office remains ongoing and will not be available until it’s closed, a spokeswoman for the office said Monday. ....

Cincinnati City Councilman Wendell Young charged in texting scandal


Cincinnati City Councilman Wendell Young has been indicted on a single charge stemming from a three-year-old texting scandal.
A Hamilton County grand jury on Thursday charged Young with tampering with records, a third-degree felony punishable by up to three years in prison.
In a statement, Patrick Hanley, the special prosecutor who has been investigating Young for more than a year, said that between January and October of 2018, Young knowingly and with the purpose to defraud, destroyed text messages that belonged to a government entity.  
Hanley told The Enquirer this marks the end of his investigation into the Gang of Five case. None of the other four council members accused of illegally texting with each other will be criminally charged. ....
