Sam Sutter as Boss Hogg
Defense attorney Kevin Reddington used a few pop culture references during the course of the trial. He was reprimanded by Judge Douglas Woodlock for referencing the mob movie, Goodfellas, while cross examining alleged co-conspirator Tony Costa. And when questioning the tax preparer from Liberty Tax Services, he suggested they were the ones with the Liberty, Liberty, Lib-erty jingle (they aren t that s Liberty Mutual insurance).
Still, the image of former District Attorney Sam Sutter, who served an abbreviated term as Fall River mayor after the recall of Will Flanagan, as Boss Hogg, the gluttonous character from the Dukes of Hazzard TV show, was particularly striking.
FALL RIVER Jay says he buys high-quality pot in Fall River not to get a buzz but to help him fall asleep.
“I have horrible insomnia, and it helps me a lot,” said the 38-year-old Warwick resident, who didn’t want to reveal his last name.
Jay says he’s not eligible for a medical cannabis card in Rhode Island which is why he spends up to $200 every two months at the Northeast Alternatives dispensary on William S. Canning Boulevard off of Route 24 near the Tiverton line.
“I have no choice but to come here,” Jay said on a recent weekday afternoon, as he held a small customer bag containing both smokable weed and cannabis wax, which is a concentrated form of cannabis oil.
BOSTON The prosecution and defense rested in the 24-count federal fraud, extortion and bribery case of Jasiel Correia II on Thursday. Now the fate of the former Fall River mayor will be in the hands of a 14-member jury on Monday after closing arguments from both sides.
Correia, 29, did not take the stand, and defense attorney Kevin Reddington only called three witnesses.
Jonathan Carreiro, a Swansea technical project manager, said Correia came to him for his expertise to update the SnoOwl app. SnoOwl investors had previously testified that Correia wasn t doing much to develop the app.
Sarah Hartry, deputy general counsel for Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance, testified that her office confirmed Correia had no knowledge of the campaign finance violation of Matthew Pichette s wife, Dina. Pichette had testified Wednesday that David Hebert instructed him to pay his bribe by having 25 friends and relatives donate $1,000 each to Correia s campaign.

A federal corruption trial that has focused on payoffs orchestrated through âmiddlemenâ or disguised as campaign contributions took a dramatic twist Wednesday as a local businessman testified that he placed a $75,000 cash bribe directly into the hands of Jasiel F. Correia II, then mayor of Fall River.
Testifying at Correiaâs trial in US District Court in Boston, Charles Saliby, 39, told jurors he had worked at his familyâs Fall River store for years when he arranged a City Hall meeting with Correia in June 2018 about his plan to open a retail marijuana shop next door.
