Historic artefacts return to Ilkley Manor House once more

ARTEFACTS that used to be on display in the heritage space of Ilkley Manor House but were taken into safe keeping in 2015 by Bradford Council are at last being returned to the town.
“The large display cabinet in the Heritage Room housed over 70 artefacts,” said John Cockshott, Trustee of the Ilkley Manor House Trust and Chairman of the Friends of Ilkley Manor House.
“They are part of the story of the town and its development and so it is important that they are back on display for our visitors.
“It has taken a long time to negotiate their return and this period has been extended by the lockdowns during 2020 and 2021 but the Board is delighted that they are coming back.” ....

Sandra Staebell is the Registrar/Collections Curator at the Kentucky Museum at Western Kentucky University. Her love of history led her to study Public History and Museum Studies in school, with a B.A. in History from the University of Northern Iowa and an M.A. in Museum Science from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX. From there she moved to the Kentucky Museum in 1988 and has been there ever since.
She sees the textiles and costume collection of the museum as one of its biggest strengths, pointing out that the staff has been working directly with the University, specifically what was then called the Home Economics department, since the early 1980s. Today this partnership continues to be an integral part of operations at the museum. Staebell is currently working directly with an honors class to create an exhibit about 1960s Mod Style. Garments from the collection are also made available for instruc ....

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich When it comes to Grand Rapids sports legends, Joyce Hill Westerman may not be the first name that comes to mind. After all, her only season with the Grand Rapids Chicks was her rookie year, a year in which she only had 18 at bats over nine games.
But the 1945 season Westerman spent in Grand Rapids was historic for the city. The Chicks franchise had just moved from Milwaukee, where the team struggled to compete for fans with the Brewers, which at the time was a minor league franchise. ....
