Bangor, Maine News Update: April 9, 2021 The Maine CDC reports 326 new cases of COVID-19 and one additional death. Bates College students have been on in-room lockdown for over a week, and it’s now been extended to Sunday. Students are only allowed to leave their rooms for food, exercise, or getting vaccinated as the college tries to get ahead of a growing COVID-19 outbreak. Two men are facing charges after a homeowner said they allegedly broke into his Otis home. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office says the witness told authorities that two men ran from his house when he returned home. WVII-TV reports Darrell Rogers of Medford and Casey Mcelligot of Otis are charged with burglary. ....

Bangor, Maine News Update: March 11, 2021 The Maine CDC reports 196 new cases of COVID-19 in the state. Dr. Nirav Shah says people who are fully vaccinated can consider gathering with others in a private setting, who are also fully vaccinated, without wearing masks but while still respecting social distancing a low-risk activity. He reminds residents that ‘fully vaccinated’ is defined as two weeks after receiving the final dose. The University of Maine system is preparing for a return to the traditional experience for students in the fall. Administrators announced on Wednesday that current plans are for students to return to a pre-pandemic college experience in classrooms instead of taking classes remotely. ....
HOME lends a hand to residents of troubled motel BUCKSPORT HOME Cooperative has been working to find housing for more than two dozen people who reside at the Spring Fountain Motel, which the Bucksport Town Council may declare a dangerous building after an April 8 hearing. If found to be dangerous building, the town could order all inhabitants to vacate the motel. Life safety issues are being cited as a reason to declare the motel dangerous. The issues include a lack of heat and water and electricity issues in some of the rooms. However, an employee at the motel on Tuesday said that all the residents now have heat and electricity and running water. The motel, which rents rooms by the week as well as by the month, belongs to Asad Khaqan, a New Jersey resident. Efforts to reach Khaqan have been unsuccessful. The motel’s phone number has been disconnected. ....
