Knocks, Kudos Trail New Airport Projects


Criticisms have continued to follow the move to establish more airports in Nigeria.
However, some experts hailed the move, saying it would spur socio economic development in the states.
Some experts see airport projects as unviable and a waste of resources, saying the resources ought to be channeled towards providing social amenities such as potable water, roads, health facilities and others in the states where such projects are ongoing presently.

Aviation stuck funds in Nigeria, other African countries hit $601m


FG plans another bailout for the sector
Unrepatriated funds of foreign airlines in Nigeria and 16 other African countries have been estimated at $601 million.

The stuck fund is proceeds of ticket sales made in local currency but blocked due to the non-availability of foreign exchange to recoup it.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) disclosed as it appealed to African governments to release funds and further support local carriers to increase the chances of survival amid the downtime.
In a related development, the Federal Government is contemplating another batch of bailout funds for the aviation sector, after the release of N5 billion. ....

Travel agencies protest COVID-19 rapid test regime at airports


Foreign airlines explain extra measures, seek cooperation
Travel operators, Wednesday, kicked against the new COVID-19 antigen tests among other safety measures now imposed by some foreign airlines plying the Nigerian route.

The operators flayed the additional discomfort and extra cost imposed on the travelling public in Nigeria alone, describing them as exploitative.
The airlines earlier explained that the additional test measures were due to rampant cases of fake COVID-19 test results coming from Nigeria.
The Guardian reported that international carriers have begun enforcement of fresh safety protocols much to the discomfort of Nigerian travellers.
