A pair of Pella spring sports teams will compete in their respective state tournaments this week. The No. 2 ranked in Class 1A Pella boys tennis team is competing in the final four of the team championships Tuesday. This comes after the doubles pair of Jack Edwards and Vaughn Thompson and singles player Lucas Heap each finished runner-up in the state individual tournament Saturday. The No. 4 ranked Pella boys soccer team is preparing for the Class 2A state quarterfinals match against No. 5 ADM in the afternoon at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines. The No. 4 Pella boys soccer team is at home this evening in the 2A Substate Final against No. 9 Fort Madison. The Dutch are seeking the school’s 6th appearance in the final eight, and first since winning the championship in 2018. Tickets can be purchased here for the 6:30 p.m. start at Pella High School. On Eagle Lane, the Eagles girls welcome Knoxville in a regular season rematch to begin the 1A regional playoffs. Pella Christian knocked off the Panthers 1-0 at Ken Locke Stadium earlier this spring. The match begins at 6 p.m. at Pella Christian High School. On Thursday and Friday, Pella golfer Will Simpson will aim for a state championship in the 3A meet as an individual in Marshalltown. Pella Boys Tennis Team Keeps Undefeated Season Going, Dominating League Tournament In Grinnell, the No. 2 in 1A Pella boys tennis team continued their dominance, winning the league tournament. The Dutch swept the top of the doubles leaderboard, with Vaughn Thompson and Jack Edwards winning flight one and Adam Schreur and Jack Briggs sweeping flight two. The team now turns its focus to the 2021 postseason and making a run at the school’s fourth consecutive state team appearance and at qualifying individuals and doubles pairs beginning this Wednesday in Knoxville.
