What students think about racial justice efforts on campus

Of the 2,000 college students surveyed between April 5 and 15, nearly half recall getting an email from their institution, and about three in 10 remember a statement expressing support for BLM. Colleges were much less likely to have taken bold steps, such as developing a comprehensive racial justice action plan.
“That’s exactly what presidents do we issue a statement,” says Lori White, president of DePauw University in Indiana. “We organize conversation circles. We offer counseling. We activate a task force. Shelby school board considers renewal levy for November ballot
SHELBY - Residents could see a 4.5-mill renewal of an emergency levy on the November ballot.
Shelby Superintendent Tim Tarvin brought up the matter at Monday s board of education meeting. He said the levy, which has been in place since 1987, generates $950,000 a year.
Tarvin called it instrumental to continue operations.
It s not a new tax; it s not an additional tax, he said. It s the same tax people have been paying since 1987.
It s typically been a fairly easy sell. We need to go out and communicate well why we need this money. ....

In my youth, I quite enjoyed the country rodeos I went to with my family. But that was over 50 years ago; times have changed and so have I changed.
Our children have been curling since they were 11 years old. I have curled in a league with 80-year-olds that have better stamina than me, call the game better than me and can make a double takeout without batting an eye.

Shelby Church set to buy Auburn and Dowds elementary schools

Auburn was built in 1948, while Dowds was constructed in 1956. Options for what to do with the buildings included demolition, sale or conveying them to a taxing authority within the community.
Demolition would have cost $606,000. Shelby City Schools would have shared half of the cost. The money was already budgeted.
It s time to find out what the market value is for these buildings, Tarvin said at a previous board meeting. It allows us the opportunity to shift our plan if need be instead of waiting until the last minute.
White previously said, The goal is not to have those buildings sitting empty. ....
