Orlando Fire Department equipped with new gear to protect against COVID-19
The Orlando Fire Department is adding an extra layer of protection for its firefighters.
ORLANDO, Fla. - Orlando firefighters are used to some heavy gear to protect them from smoke, heat, and flames.
Now, they are getting fitted with powered air-purifying respirators (PAPR) to help protect them against COVID-19. 
It’s battery-operated gear that lasts eight-and-a-half hours, and it’s just some of the new equipment purchased to reduce the risk they face with exposure to COVID-19.
So they put the hood over their head. It’s got a nice, big, clear lens that they can see through and the person that they’re talking to can read their lips and understand them easier, said Orlando Fire Department District Chief Lori McDonald. ....

Cops and Kids paired together for shopping day
“It’s a chance to help the kids and see a smile on their faces.”
That’s what Reserve Deputy Rick Hirtzel, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, said has kept him coming back to help with the Cops and Kids program for at least 20 years.
Feeling the joy from seeing kids’ smiling faces was a common thread among the law enforcement volunteers Saturday morning at the Seymour Walmart Supercenter.

Jackson County United Way director stepping down for family

After more than eight years as executive director of Jackson County United Way, Tonja Couch will leave the organization next month.
Her last day on the job will be Jan. 29. She is leaving to pursue new opportunities and focus on family, she said.
“I feel like I have accomplished great things during my time as the executive director of United Way; however, that involved a significant time investment on my part and ultimately a sacrifice to my family,” she said.

Since 1994, Tim Rose has dreamed of offering bred and rarely seen reptiles to the public.
Now, that dream has become a reality.
The Columbus man and his daughter, Scarlet Rose, 26, are the co-owners of Scarlet’s Primitive Pets.
The pet shop is located at 300 N. Chestnut St. in the Vehslage Building in downtown Seymour. Visitors should enter from the Chestnut Street side of the building.
