Swampscott may get money for racial equity action plan

Swampscott may get money for racial equity action plan House accepts, adopts state Rep. Lori Ehrlich s funding amendment Wicked Local Swampscott stands to receive up-to $100,000 from the state government to produce and implement a racial equity municipal action plan. State Rep. Lori Ehrlich, D-Marblehead,  successfully submitted the appropriation amendment into the House’s Fiscal Year 2022 state budget that representatives adopted and put forward last week. Whether the town captures the money hinges on Ehrlich’s amendment emerging from a conference committee when both the House and the Senate reconcile their proposed fiscal 2022 budgets for adoption. If that reconciled version passes, the adopted budget goes to Gov. Charlie Baker’s desk.

The $80,000 grant coupled with a $20,000 commitment will cover the project’s phase 1.   “This request for grant funding comes at a critical time, as climate change has contributed to sea-level rise and the increased presence of violent and damaging storms,” Swampscott Town Administrator Sean Fitzgerald to the Swampscott Board of Selectmen. “Swampscott continues to put forth aggressive efforts in improving its resiliency, and therefore, this funding is essential in helping us to a
