47abc May 24, 2021 SALISBURY, MD After trailing 5-1 in the first five minutes of the game, Salisbury Men’s Lacrosse finished the game on a 17-3 run for the 18-8 win over CNU. The win propels the Gulls to their 19th DIII National title game. It was just over 2 years to the day that Salisbury was in this very game taking on Cabrini. The Gulls fell to the eventual national champs 16-13 in a heart breaker. Today, SU welcomed in CNU with a shot at the 2021 national title game on the line. The Seagulls faces the Captains 3 times already this season, winning all of the contests but each one a little closer than the one before. The Captains came out like firing in this one. Opening the game up on a 5-1 run midway through the first quarter. Brady Altobello and Dylan Rice each with two goals in the first ten minutes of the game for CNU. Lacrosse is a game of runs, and CNU twice utilized 4-0 spurts to change the momentum. Down 6-2, a four-goal run between the end of the second and start of the third quarter tied the score at 6. Then, after Ryan Kenney scored consecutive goals for Lynchburg, CNU ended the third quarter with three goals and scored the first tally of the fourth, going ahead 10-8. Up 11-9, CNU relinquished the lead. Trammel Robinson scored the equalizer with 1:27 left to play, setting the stage for overtime. Despite the Lynchburg momentum, it was Christopher Newport that earned a semifinal bid. Dylan Rice scored four goals, Brendes scored three and Coby Auslander had two goals and two assists for the Captains. Zac Hanway made 11 saves. ....
47abc May 8, 2021 SALISBURY, MD.- For the 23rd time in program history, Salisbury Mens Lacrosse captured the conference title. The Gulls took down Christopher Newport 12-9 for the Coast to Coast conference championship. The Gulls jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead behind two Griff Moroney goals in the first quarter. CNU countered with a 2-0 run of their own, Brady Atobello and Dylan Rice got the Captains on the board to tie us up at two to start the second quarter. From there, SU went on a 3-1 run to end the half for the 6-3 lead at the break. ....
The first time defenseman Drew Borkowicz visited Salisbury, he was sold. “I drank the Kool Aid, I fell in love with it the second I stepped into [coach Jim Berkman’s] office. The plaques, the trophies, the pictures. It’s like, ‘Whoa,’” Borkowicz said. Berkman told him right then and there: He expects excellence. He expects you to work harder than you think you can. He expects the best, or you don’t have a place reaping the reward of national titles. “He expects nothing but 100% from you no matter what you do.
